Back pain can take many different forms and the type of pain a person feels can vary depending on a number of things, including where the pain is and where it originates from. Typical forms of back discomfort and pain include:
- Mechanical Back Pain: Mechanical back pain refers to discomfort caused by abnormalities in the musculoskeletal structures of the back, including the muscles, ligaments, and vertebrae.
- Radicular Back Pain: Radicular pain is caused by irritation or compression of a spinal nerve root as it exits the spinal column. This type of pain is characterized by a sharp, shooting sensation that may radiate from the lower back into the buttocks, leg, and foot, or from the neck into the arm and hand.
- Sciatica: Sciatica is a specific type of radicular pain that occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed or irritated. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body, running from the lower back through the buttocks and down each leg.
- Axial Back Pain: Axial pain, also known as localized or non-radiating pain, is limited to one specific area of the spine, such as the lower back or neck. It does not radiate into the limbs.
- Muscular Back Pain: Muscular back pain is discomfort that arises from the muscles of the back. It is often caused by overuse, strain, or injury to the muscles, leading to inflammation and soreness. Poor posture, improper lifting techniques, and repetitive motions can contribute to muscular back pain.
Mechanical Back Pain
Issues with the back's muscles, bones, or joints frequently result in this kind of back pain. It could be connected to tasks like lifting, carrying, or bending.
To treat musculoskeletal problems and enhance function, your Kaizen Progressive chiropractor may employ manual treatments such as spine manipulation, massage, and mobilization. To strengthen and stretch the muscles that support the spine, and to address any problems that may be causing pain, rehabilitation exercises may also be recommended.
Radicular Pain
The spinal nerves' irritation or compression are to blame for this sort of back pain. A common way to describe it is as a shooting or radiating pain that runs down the legs from the lower back.
To treat spinal problems that may be causing compression or irritation of the spinal nerves, other manual treatments and spinal manipulation may be used. In order to relieve strain on the nerves and increase mobility, they could also suggest stretches and exercises.
Sciatica Pain
The sciatic nerve, which travels from the lower back down the buttocks and down the legs, is what causes this particular sort of radicular pain.
Our chiropractic staff may suggest particular stretches and exercises to assist relieve strain on the sciatic nerve and enhance function in addition to manual therapy.
Axial Pain
Back pain that is restricted to the spine is referred to as axial pain and is frequently described as a dull ache. Degenerative disc degeneration or conditions like spinal stenosis may be to blame.
Chiropractic adjustments are manual treatments that chiropractors employ to treat spinal problems and enhance function. The muscles that support the spine may be strengthened and stretched with the aid of rehabilitation exercises.
Muscular Pain
Back pain brought on by muscle strain or overuse is known as muscular back pain. It could be related to activities like strenuous lifting or protracted uncomfortable sitting.
Kaizen doctors and therapists employ methods like massage and trigger point treatment to address problems with tense or overworked back muscles. Our team may also suggest stretches and specific workout routines to aid with flexibility and ease tension in the affected muscles.

Two big thumbs up for Dr. Steve and the Kaizen team! Dr. Steve was recommended to me by my chiropractor in Canada who recommended I receive treatments from him while visiting Scottsdale. When I arrived in Scottsdale I visited the Kaizen office and was immediately welcomed and a appointment was set up for the next day. I have continued treatments for that last few weeks and can honestly say, I feel like I will be returning to Canada in a new body. To be able to enjoy a day with out being in pain is absolutely priceless and I have so much gratitude for Dr. Steve and his team.

I have known Dr Steve for a little over 6 years now and it has been such a pleasure to have him as a part of my care team and just in my life in general. He has brought so many amazing things into my treatment plan and all you have to do is listen to the way that he talks to patients and you will hear why he's different. When you watch him work you see how he interacts with people in a way that shows he really cares and you can feel the great energy and the genuine caring nature of everyone in the office when you go visit Dr Steve! Not only has Dr Steve helped me with my chiropractic adjustments and living a healthier life he is worked wonders to make sure I have stayed pain-free and in the instances when I have had something pop up he is built an inclusive practice that is so strong and offers so many other modalities that there are lots of paths for people to become successful in their health goals through working with him.
